Sump Pumps & Sewage Ejectors

James Plumbing offers service, repair, and installation of sump pumps, ejector pumps, and sewage ejector pumps.

What is the difference between a sump pump and an ejector pump? Both are important features in a home’s water system and the malfunction or either one can create quite a mess!

A sump pump is a small pump located in the basement.  It collects water from the soil around the home’s foundation.  This water is typically cold and clear.  When the water level rises high enough the switch is triggered and the water is pumped through a discharge pipe. If a sump pump malfunctions the basement will likely flood.

An ejector pump can look similar to a sump pump.  It is also installed in a floor but rather than gathering ground water, the ejector pump’s basin collects “gray water” from washing machines, utility sinks, or water from floor drains. The discharge from an ejector pump will always be connected to a sanitary sewer line.  If this pump fails the flood water could contain raw sewage or other dirty water and the area will need to be cleaned and sanitized.

A homeowner can identify an ejector pump by running water from a sink or flushing a basement toilet. Either one would trigger the ejector pump.

Keeping your sump pumps and ejector pumps up-to-date is a good way to safeguard your home or office from any basement mold caused by water accumulation.

Does your home have a sewage ejector pump? We fix those as well!  Sewage and septic ejector pumps remove “black water” (toilet waste) from the home to a public septic line or a private septic tank.  A malfunction of a sewage pump can be a very unpleasant experience!
